Is it Confidence?

Or was it Ego?

Let's first talk about ego, Ego refers to the part of self especially the self-importance that is responsible of the individual’s thoughts and feelings. In Freud's theory of personality, we can see the psyche of a person into three parts. The Id, Ego, and the Superego, in which develops throughout the stages of our lives. The Id is the instinctive, the impulsive or the intrusive parts of ourselves. This is the unconscious part of the personality and usually responds to the pleasure principle. The Superego is the unconscious part of ourselves that has a voice of a conscience, it usually pertains to morality and virtue which is learned from parents and other people of society. You can look at Freud's theory like this, the superego is the angel, the id is the devil, and the ego is yourself.

Next, let's talk about confidence. It refers to the self-assurance, belief in one's abilities and judgement. We can correlate Carl Rogers’ self-concept theory to confidence. In this theory we have the Self-Image and the Ideal-Image. The Self-image is how we see ourselves, the current self. The Ideal-Image is who or what kind of person we want to be. This is usually our dreams and ambitions that we want to achieve. With self-concept, as long as you are aware of your own capabilities and you know your own self, it can be the epitome of your confidence and become the better person than who you are.
